I was really surprised when I saw the left vs right article. It is a really interesting find, and really shows that alot goes into a book and it's structure, right down to the caulk between the bricks. I would ave never really noticed this metally without it being pointed out in the article, but I wonder if subconsciously I registered it. A bias toward the right of the body? Hmm, I don't think left-handed people are like all evil or anything like that, but the symbolism it showed was genius. I wonder if there are any other underlying symbolisms or trends in the book that haven't been found yet. I think this just goes to show how popular the book is for it to be psycho-analyzed so hard that they even found this.

I read the article "Redemption of Atticus." I think Crespino's opinion of Atticus being narcissistic do-gooder is all wrong. Atticus defended Tom because it was the right thing to do. If Atticus was just doing it for self-admiration, the he wouldn't have even done it in the first place. He went through alot of crap in that town to defend Tom, and he didn't even win. But Crespino was right about one thing: The whites were the only people that could save the blacks. In the 30s, they had no credibility whatsoever. If they were to take a stand, they could quite literally get shot down very quickly. It made people stop and think back then when a white man stood up for them, because back then the white man was the only respected breed of human in America. It's a sad but true fact.
